Live the Life You Really Want
The search for a fairy-tale life. A lot of us do it, we dream about the stuff dreams are made of, and hope it happens—if not today, maybe tomorrow. “The first day of the rest of our lives.”
You know how many “first days” I’ve had through the years? Life has a crazy way of taking us where we don’t need to be, just yet. I had a tendency to float through time on whims of impulse, thinking about my dreams, and imagining “one day” they would come to pass. We’re supposed to embrace the present moment. But what if that moment is not the way we want it to be? Then it came to me.
Most of us don’t pay attention to the part of ourselves that harbors our own inner bright light, as day-to-day life in the real world easily keeps us from it. Life is a product of our choices, and we often aren’t happy caught within their boundaries. They can feel restrictive, confusing, chaotic, and scary.
I mean, would we ever take a journey if we knew ahead of time that we might get desperately lost, have our hearts broken, and embody deep fear that we may never make it out of darkness? Of course not. So we have to start by believing that on that very same journey will find our way, find ourselves, and live happily ever after. And we can’t find that peeking into others’ windows. We have to go deep inside and listen to our own heart. That’s where we’ll find the magic wand.
So I’ll start here…again. The search for our fairy tale life really begins after answering a few questions.
• Have you known yourself your whole life but don’t know who you are?
• Do you want a life that doesn’t hide the truth about who you are and what you want? A life that is happy by default, a life that is real?
• Are you interested in discovering what is creating your discomfort and find ways to eliminate it?
• Are you ready and willing to surrender to the suffering and discover the possibilities ahead?
• Are you ready to let go of old ways, and open up to a new way of being, one that brings wellbeing?
• Are you ready to feel your way through each day with trust?
•Do you believe you can thrive right here, right now?
Sometimes we have to let go to learn. Be still to move forward. Give to receive. Cry to feel joy. Pretend to make it real. And then we can cross over into the life we really want—the one that’s right there waiting for us but we did not see.
We all share one thing in common—the desire for happiness. I hope you will take a minute to listen to your heart and find that spark of magic that will help you create your own fairy tale. Because I believe in happy endings, even when life is complicated.
