I was sitting on my yoga mat with my eyes closed after a great practice (in my pajamas in my living room), and I had a radical experience. You know that feeling when you just know that you’re done with something? That you’ve let it go? That you’re now untethered? Well, guess what I just let go of. Letting go.

We give the phrase “let it go” so much power. But letting go is really hard. And, sometimes it isn’t even a possibility, let alone a decision. So I broke it down and came up with something else that feels easier to do.

It’s been a swirl-wind of magical craziness, starting with our childhood BFF (and friend-zoned!) bond…a social-media reconnection after 20 years…subsequent mind-blowing, thriller-level terror from others…but always staying in a sweet spot of undiluted awesomeness. We were meant to be.

Yesterday was a normal day…until after I came ho

Yesterday was a normal day…until after I came home and was quietly going about my business.

It started with the screaming outside my front door. I went to see what was going on and my neighbor and friend suddenly collapsed and died. The 911 chaos that ensued was unreal. I watched it all happen like a movie that is now replaying in my mind over and over, shocking, traumatic, disturbing, and sad.

I’ve never witnessed death before and I don’t like it. For what reason did the Universe/God/PowersThatBe put me right there to be part of this passing?

(And why did Jeff take this pic of me in line?!)

Life goes on. Until it doesn’t. Grateful to be alive.

Whenever I look at social media, I start comparing

Whenever I look at social media, I start comparing myself to everybody else. It’s only natural (and I’m pretty sure we all do it). Lately, it’s been about my whole career, starting with my college degree.   My thoughts cascade into so many things... Why did I choose this...why did I do that...what if I decided this instead...oh no, now it’s too late. It’s a never-ending spiral of self-deprecation.

But I had a flash of insight that made me think that experience is more than something you need to get a job. It’s even more than something that happens to you.

So, what is experience? If we thought of it like this, the whole fabric of life might change. (And feel good too.)

When I sat down to share my latest blog post on so

When I sat down to share my latest blog post on social, things started to get weird. I thought I was having a stroke…or was facing the early stages of a neurodegenerative disease…or was so exhausted from a pre-melanoma skin cancer ordeal these last few weeks and subsequent surgery last week, that my body and mind were just spent.

I tried to collect myself enough to pour two glasses of medical grade electrolytes, and while those were dissolving, gobble the fast chew equivalent for “emergencies.”

Then I called my doctor, who reminded me that this was a particularly bad POTS episode. I should have guessed it was coming on, it had been building for days with debilitating symptoms that screamed MORE SODIUM AND POTASSIUM NEEDED PLEASE. With POTS you need a whole to of salt to help keep things in better balance.

When I stabilized, I realized POTS isn’t for the faint of heart. And in that moment, I was so proud of myself for enduring this wretched condition for the last 3 years, with no end in sight.

Then I thought about how LIFE isn’t for the faint of heart either, and decided to take my own advice that I shared in my post, “If It’s Not One Thing, It’s Another (and what to do about it).”

Earlier today was scary, but as I post this now, I find it interesting that what happened is what I wrote about: one thing gets resolved, but another crops up, again and again and again.
